Well, I guess theres not much to say as youve already mentioned the most important arguments in your blog entry. I also liked the email projects very much and I do believe that students will have alot of fun writing. Im just wondering, if it would be better to just let them go, write about personal stuff and trust in them that they actually write those emails? or is it the better way to give them weekly assignements and discuss the answers in class?
I dont know, havent thought about it too thoroughly, though.

I hope you get well soon!

Best wishes,
Marina

hey lorena,
good idea I guees, although I think you would have to give your students a transparent task you can check on later. to my mind it is not enough to merely provide them with the necessary technology to do so! however, you have already excused that you didn't have a look in the Hessian curriculum, yet.
ok, writing my comment again it sounds far too critical! actually, you have already provided a detailed description with your teddy bear project and I am pretty sure if you really put in into practice it at school it is going to be a wonderful and well structured lesson;-)
greetings
thomasthough ;-) *lol*

I think the aspect of the New Media as an alternative teaching method was a bit of an eye opener for most of us. This highly-theoretical seminar always made me (and I think I can speak for a lot of us) a little uneasy because it seemed to imply that all conservative teaching methods were outdated and future teachers had to live in a paper-free HTML universe. However, come to think about it as merely an alternative that does work and motivates students the New Media seems half as bad and frightening. Looking at the Steinmühle showed us that teachers aren't forced to over-use the New Media, skepticism about plagiarism exists (as always), and technicalities seem to be the greates problem. So, given the fact that we should be able to deal with technical problems once we're teachers I do agree with your final sentiment that the advantages definitely outweigh the disadvantages.
Oh, and a happy New Year to you, too...

Hi hi,

NM is really rarely used in your old school, so that it is not hard to comprehend your rising questions why it is like that. guess, it is a little bit of everything and it might be very tough to evoke a change with so few opportunities for using computers. but teachers should at least trying to use the few ones that are given, even if they are not as familiar with the new technique. maybe it is possible to led a student or another expert lead such computer lesson?!

Lorena,

in your blog you analyized the current situation at your old school very well. By reading it, I can tell that it is quite similar to my old school and all the questions/excuses you ask in the end of your blog apply to a lot of schools.
I like that you admitted how the situation for you personally was although it brings shame on you ;) but actually, I think it didn't because it has been like that for all of us!

The teddy bear project is really quite interesting and seems to be fun. I like the idea of switching perspectives by writing a diary from a teddybear's point of view, because it practices the students' empathetic skills. Unfortunatley, the "real" contact to the other student gets lost somewhere, because everybody talks through a doll ...

Hi Lorena,

nice idea to include all these abbreviations! I thought about it, too, but dropped the idea very soon, because it was too confusing for me ;-)
Besides, I agree with you that I would not include MOOs in my lessons, but my reasons are different. I would never use something, when I don't know how it works, because in this case the students might misuse it, as you stated correctly.

All in all a nice entry!

Best wishes, Jaana

Hey lorena, what shall I say but well done! The tasktopic was widely stretched so you focused on the information have been given in the virtual session. that's good I guess. furthermore, I could easily follow your English. that is you formulated your ideas logically structured and expressed them in a comprehensible manner!

Lorena -
I agree with you that the "traditional" subjects, such as biology or history should still be taught - independent from how important and influential the internet- and computerworld gets.
But I also believe that modern day schools should concentrate more intense on media/computer education since those skills get more and more important in the "after-school-life". You said it wouldn't be very important to have knowledge about computers in order to find a job. I'm not sure about that one...I think it is very important - for a large number of jobs.
Nevertheless, nice blog entry!

And - HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!!!

Hi.
We both worked on the same task and I must say, there's nothing really for me to add. I, too, agree with what you have said about the importance of new media and computer skillz. You have stressed the point that these things are important but shouldn't replace traditional subjects, and I totally agree with you.
Actually, we agree on pretty much everything regarding this issue. Well done & cheers!
